Green Tumb

Last week there was a death in my family. My great grandmother, Zora Williams, passed away.
Since then she has really been on my mind. After the funeral I have been spending time with my family looking at old pictures, and telling stories about her. I live in the house where she spent most of her life before being moved to a nursing home. Seeing old pictures of my home when it was her home, really makes me miss her. She was a wonderful woman, and a wonderful gardener. She loved her trees. She planted trees and flowers all around the house, and had a large garden in the back yard. I have purchased new plants to plant in her memory. I miss you Granny.

My favorite thing I ever ate

I am a huge lover of food. I enjoy many different styles and tastes. When I try to think about what my favorite dish I ever ate, it's hard to come to a conclusion.
I am a meat and potatoes girl. I love steak. I have had many terrific steaks, but none form anywhere near where I live.
My senior year I traveled to California. One night we went out to eat at this nice restaurant in Orange County. It was this beautiful villa inspired place on the top of this hill. We went after dark and sat out on the patio by the fire. You could see all the house and streets scattered about the hills below. It was simply breathtaking.
But back to the dish. I ordered a fillet with mashed potatoes and asparagus. When it arrived it looked like a work of art. I almost didn't want to eat it, but I was glad I did. It was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were mixed with garlic and the skins and had and herby goodness. The meal was to die for.
Whenever I eat a steak, I think of that place. When I am back in California I will be visiting there again.

Come and Gone

The Valentines Day party turned out to be hit. Everything went off without a hitch until it came time to show my video. My mother had gotten the projector and screen and I had set them up. She has said that when she picked up the projector she had made sure that it would work with my MacBook. When it came time to hook everything up, that turned out to be untrue.
There was no connector that fit from the projector into my laptop and no way to make it work. I was really upset seeing as how the video had taken most of my days for at least a week. After scrambling around for about a half an hour I finally decided to just show the 37 min slide show on my laptop. Everyone pulled up seats and gathered around and really enjoyed the piece.
None of the partygoers seemed to notice that anything was different than planned, but I still really wish that the slide screen and project had worked. I took everyones addresses and will be mailing copies to all that wanted them.

Valentines Day!

This year Valentines day is not only a commercial romantic holiday, it also marks the celebration for my great grandmother's 85th birthday. I have been working all week preparing a slide show of hundreds of different photos ranging from the begging of my grandmother's life in 1925 to this point in mine. After countless hours of scanning and photoshopping old photos, I feel as if I am finally closer to my goal of a finished piece. The finished slide show will run throughout the party for all her friends and family to see. I can't wait to see people's reactions, since most of the people attending will be featured in the slideshow. I hope they enjoy my hard work.
Happy Birthday Grandma Mae!
